SMS Consent & Disclosure

Effective Date: May 3, 2026

Last Updated: May 3, 2026

This page explains how Chirp ("we", "us") sends emergency SMS messages to the parents and guardians ("Parents") listed on a camper profile, what those messages contain, how consent is obtained and recorded, and how Parents can opt out at any time. It supplements the SMS sections of our Terms & Conditions (Section 7.3) and Privacy Policy (Section 7).

Program Description

Chirp is a camp management platform used by summer camps, retreats, schools, and similar youth programs ("Camps"). When a Camp adds a Parent's phone number to a camper profile in Chirp, the Camp's authorized administrator may use Chirp to send emergency, transactional SMS messages from the Camp to that Parent. Typical examples include severe-weather warnings, missing-camper notifications, medical incidents, and pickup instructions during an emergency. Chirp does not send marketing or promotional SMS to Parents.

How Consent Is Obtained

Chirp uses a layered, auditable consent model:

  1. In-app administrator attestation. Before any phone number can be used for SMS, the Camp's authorized administrator must check a required consent box inside the Chirp mobile app, next to the parent phone number field on the camper profile, attesting: "I confirm this parent/guardian has consented to receive emergency SMS notifications at this number." The system records the attesting administrator's user ID and the timestamp of the attestation, and blocks SMS sending to any contact for which this attestation is missing.
  2. Independent parent confirmation by email. Where a Parent's email address is also on file, Chirp sends the Parent a notice describing the consent attestation and the SMS program; the Parent can revoke consent at any time by reply or by contacting the Camp.
  3. Public disclosure. This page, plus the SMS sections of our Terms and Privacy Policy referenced above, document the program in plain language and are linked from the in-app consent checkpoint.

An immutable audit trail of consent events is maintained in the Chirp system and is available to the Camp on request.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies based on emergencies. Most Parents receive few or no messages during a typical season; during an active incident, a Parent may receive multiple messages in a short time as the situation develops.

Message and Data Rates

Message and data rates may apply. Standard rates from your wireless carrier apply to all SMS messages sent by Chirp on behalf of the Camp. Chirp does not charge Parents for these messages.

How to Opt Out

You can stop receiving SMS messages from a Camp at any time:

Opting out of SMS will not stop emergency email notifications, if your email is on file. To stop those, contact the Camp.

How to Get Help

Reply HELP to any message for help, or contact us at hello@chirp.camp. For Camp-specific questions, please contact your Camp directly.

Carrier Disclosures

Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Chirp delivers SMS through Twilio, a licensed CPaaS provider; Twilio routes the message to your wireless carrier for delivery to your device.

Privacy and Information Sharing

Phone numbers provided to a Camp for emergency-contact purposes are stored by Chirp on behalf of the Camp and are used solely to deliver the Camp's emergency messages. Chirp does not sell, rent, or share Parent phone numbers with any third party for marketing purposes. Phone numbers are shared only with our SMS-delivery sub-processor (Twilio) strictly to deliver the Camp's emergency messages, as described in our Privacy Policy.
